A short article today. Much to do and a few meetings to attend.

My wife is an amazing photographer. That’s one of hers above.

Every once in a while I will include some of the more interesting images she takes. It’s not an easy decision as there are so many, but it’s a fun exercise nevertheless.

I was asked by a good friend the other day to write about how we hire over here at First Call Resolution. He was curious to understand  what the most important qualities are that we look for in new employees. Of course like all companies we are searching for the best and brightest in our industry. We want A players. People who are self motivated and who can take a task, run with it and manage not only themselves but others as well. However, the concept we focus on the most at First Call has to be cultural fit within the company. Culture is our true differentiator as an outsourcer. It is what sets us apart from others. I can’t stress enough the idea that for someone to succeed at my firm, they need to fit into and buy into our cultural philosophies around employee empowerment and values based management.

As my children get older, I sometimes think about what qualities I hope to pass down to them that I myself possess. I guess If I could only pass one single quality down, I would want it to be persistence. Life isn’t easy and they will need it. If I look at what qualities have served me best in my life, persistence (or grit, which I guess is the new term) is at the top of the list. I never considered myself the smartest or the most educated individual, but I was always willing to outwork others if I wanted something badly enough. In life, so many people give up early that just an extra bit of persistence can result in some pretty amazing things.
